IMG friendly programs: PSYCHIATRY


Places where IMGs got interview in Match 2021. This is not a comprehensive list. What I got to know during the cycle during applying. will update with poll results soon.

NON- US IMG + US IMG:

1. Southern Illinois University:
Beautiful campus. Affordable living. Small city. PD and Chair very enthusiastic about resident education.

2. Boston University (BMC): Well reputed. Highly motivated about social justice, diversity and inclusion in medicine.

3. Duke University: One of the famous ones and takes IMGs. Try to attend their open houses

4. University of Louisville: Good town to live. Well established program. PD has extensive work into Tele-medicine for the last ten years.

5. Wake Forest NC: Would have loved to go there. Really awesome environment and people.

6. St. Barnabas: Offers prematch.

7. St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boston: The new PD really looks out for the residents. Faculty is great. Collaboration possible with many nearby Universities. Affiliated to Tufts. Great place.

8. University of Mississippi: Interview was very different from the rest. Questions mainly on diversity and inclusion and some psychiatry related questions.

9. Florida memorial Healthcare: Three to four year old program. Great faculty. Interview was rushed and repetitive.

10. Maimonides: Resident seem very happy there. tend to stay on as faculty. Interview was very thorough. They want to look into your soul.

What I realized is that as such no program is out of bounds 100% but you may have to be like really accomplished to be considered for an interview.

Like you may have done post doc research with studies leading to an impact, be a Nobel prize winner, have serious work in the field of your interest.

Also professional networking is key.
